Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone thought about turbocharging the cayman-s? Does this engine has aftermarket support for rods and pistons? How about Ecu reflash or engine management for porsche?

POST 2Original post

darvo... the m96 block (or m97) are really not suitable for turbo charging. It's been tried before years ago on some 99-00 996 3.4Ls. The compression is too high and the block just not up to snuff for serious torque. Head gaskets go etc... I'd say either swap the motor our for a 3.8L or do some bolt ons for a few ponies.

What about the supercharger kits that are under development? They will create about the same engine temperatures as a twin turbocharged setup. And the supercharger kit only brings inyectors, chip, supercharger, and cooling stuff. nothing internal.. And about the compression that is why i asked about aftermarket rods and pistons... and i believe that the charger kit setup will bring a chip for the ecu for better timing? Does porsche have a engine management system that will work with the stock components? Do you know of any companies that make pistons for this engine and rods? What components do i have to buy the get the max of the engine in a naturally aspirated setup?? Sorry about all the questions, but you know new car new toy to play with.

Give them a call over at Evo Motorsports, Todd has been supercharging Porsche motors for quite sometime and can answer all your questions in full detail. I've sold several of these kits for the 996 N/A and no one complaint at $10K a pop. I know the standard on the 996 is around 100 hp gain at around 6 lbs. Todd stacks his up to 8 lbs. and drives it HARD! -Eli
