Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I’ve had my CS for a week now, and I’ve noticed that after driving the car’s rear tends to sit higher relative to the tires as compared to the front end (see pics). I first noticed this behavior two days after bringing the car home, although the rear settled after 30 minutes so that it was symmetrical again with the front. A few days later, the rear now seems to be permanently “higher” than the front, by approximately one inch. I took the car back to the dealership to have a front bumper scratch removed (clear bra going on by Prestige Mobile) and asked the service department to look into this issue. The service manager had never seen or heard of this quirk, and he had the techs measure a few other CSs on the lot and replied that the relative mismatch appears to be within range of other cars. Apparently, Porsche doesn’t see anything unusual… Is this normal??! Am I making an issue out of nothing? I’ve never seen this type of behavior in any of my previous cars, although this is my first Porsche. I wonder whether this could possibly be related to PASM, although I’ve only put the car in sport mode once and haven’t done so since I first became aware of the issue. This may very well just be cosmetic, but I certainly notice it and would like to have the problem resolved. Any suggestions??

Normal. Mine's the same. Front two finger gap, rear 3-4 finger gap. The other day I was checking out the Ferrari 599. It was worse. Front it had 3 finger gap and rear 4 finger gap. I suggest that you get someone to drive your car while you stand by the side and watch. When the car is moving, it looks just right and you won't notice the rear gap. On a different note, I do think the rear wheels could stick out more (5-10mm) and the tires could be fatter.

To ease your mind, just go to the Registry and click on AS, then scroll down and look at the pictures. There are hundreds of pics in there. Pay attention to the ones with the 19" wheels with no one in the driver's seat. Looks normal to me.

You need to fit: H&R or Eibach, Lowering springs on, to allay your fears.

POST 5Original post

Tha gap may be different, front to back, but it should not change! The only thing even remotely similar is a suspension that settles a bit after the car has been jacked up off the wheels. The 928 did this to the extant that it was recommended that the car be driven 100 miles after jacking before any wheel alignment was done, and further that no alignment be done on a machine that requires the car be lifted off its wheels.

POST 6Original post

This is precisely what has me concerned... the fact that the rear gap actually changes. I'm out of town for the next two weeks but will definitely continue to monitor this behavior. Any idea as to WHY the rear gap increases and decreases??

POST 7Original post

Perhaps its just appears to be changing, or maybe it was parked on a slope of some kind! ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent! We can shoot in any direction!" A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!

POST 8Original post

On another form that I frequent, there was a case where the rear toe-in was so extreme that the car jacked up when driven forward, but went to normal height when reversed. The suspension was swing axel (356/VW) which would be more susceptible to this than the Cayman rear suspension, but might still be possible.

this might sound like a no brainer but plz consider the possibility: is the car loaded differently in any way ?
