Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 6 speed '02 S w/72k miles has developed the common 2nd gear synchro issues, so I may be looking at a rebuild. My tentative plan is to get a rebuilt 'box shipped in from a specialist, likely GBOX in Colorado, have a P-car specialist do the swap to get me in and out quickly, and then have the core shipped back. How many hours should it take an experienced shop to do this swap? The GBOX site says they've developed a "proprietary 2nd gear fix" for the 986/996 6 speed. Anyone have an opinion on or experience with this?
