I got hold of a couple of 996 mufflers in decent condition for free. How can I tell if they are gen1 or gen2 mufflers? There are so many different part numbers around for 996 mufflers so I can't get my head around them. Are there any ways of differentiating them besides part numbers? My plan is to mod them with the PSE1-mod. Does it matter if they are different revisions of the muffler? Or are they so similar that the engine won't care?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

100% interchangeable. I have 996.2 PSE mufflers in my 996.1. Drop-in fit.
