Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

According to the source below, they claim Andreas said next GT3 generation will have 50 HP extra but lighter with both MT and PDK: Porsche's next GT and RS models to be lighter

POST 2Original post

Will be very interesting to see how the next gen plays out. Perhaps the GT3 gets some CF/ composite panels to lower weight? MT option would be nice and I initially was concerned the 991 did not offer one, but now feel the PDKS really works well with the 9k motor. MT would lower weight though. A couple of sources have said the GT3 will stay NA for a while. So for the power bump will the GT3 go to 4.0? Can't see it reving more than it already does to generate more hp. And if the GT3 gets 4.0, what then for the RS? Always fun to speculate. And there are a few little things to sort out for the next gen, like the TPMS track mode, premature fuel warnings with the extended range fuel tank on track, hopefully a camera for the SC track ap. Oh and the buffeting at speed with windows down! And of course hope the bucket seats are available for the first orders. Time will tell.....

"Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race" TL;DR: Future Porsche sports cars likely to focus more on power-to-weight ratio than simply a peak HP number. Yet we won't see HP numbers regress. Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race by CAR Magazine

POST 4Original post

Re: "Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race" Sort of. But they also saId they will no doubt offer incremental power gains going forward, while they work on weight reduction.

POST 5Original post

Re: "Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race" Good article, and the statement that resonated the most with me is: Maybe we could make a 7min 15sec car – it would be relatively easy – but then it would be a dog on the street. Lots of car enthusiasts don't appreciate that fact.

POST 6Original post

If GT3 gets the 4.0, this opens the chance that a future GT4 gets the current GT3 engine...

POST 8Original post

Hmmm. I'll believe the GT3 gets a manual gearbox when Porsche officially announces it.

POST 9Original post

I agree. I find it difficult to believe too. Saving weight of PDK is one thing but still they need the PDK to achieve GT3's peak performance. Otherwise the future MT GT3 will fall behind current 991 GT3 in that regard.

POST 10Original post

Assuming it happens if they sell both Porsche still can claim the performance and have the stick for the ones who would want it. Les

Re: "Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race" Didn't the 917 have more than 1000hp. I'll take one of that, thank you.

POST 12Original post

Re: "Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race" yeah....but that's when Porsche was interested in winning Le Mans races. (couldn't help but get my jab in) 917/30 was at 1100hp. Edit: I just did some quick research. The 917K won the 1971 Lemans with 5335.313 km. More than any of the Audis in the last four races or the Porsche 919s last year.

POST 13Original post

Re: "Porsche calls an end to the horsepower arms race" Lol, I hope that Nissan GT-R doesn't end up winning. Will give the GTR fanboys something to talk about till the end of days. They already crack me up with their comments on YouTube videos whenever someone compares a car like 911 or Ferrari.
