I have the hard back seats in my car with a sort of satin finish to match the leather. They're a bit scuffed and tatty and always planned to have them painted (slate grey). Idea just popped in my head about having them vinyl wrapped in carbon effect and wondered if anyone had done this already? I did a quick search and could only find full body and small trim parts. Ian

Ian , I have heard of it being done once but the wrappers really struggled with it and said they wouldn't do it again. my 2p for what its worth are to take the setbacks off and send them to Wicked Coatings in Poole Dorset to be carbon dipped , they are a coatings specialist and if you explained to them about scuffs from rear passengers they should be able to suggest either extra strong lacquer or extra coats of lacquer . they could even do the carbon effect onto a slate grey to match the car. or they could just paint them for you . they also do a solo touch finish similar to the finish on the centre console. Lastly you could send the hard backs to DesignLS and he could retire them in leather with French stitching, I have seen this done on a 997 turbo and the look was good . :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Thanks Phil The damage was done by previous two owners golf clubs I think. I dont play golf - the only time I ever hit two balls straight was when I trod on a garden rake!! I'm happy to have painted and been quoted a good price locally but need to strip them down. Just exploring options Ian
dam that made my eyes water just reading about your rake woes   always good to consider all the options and if going paint a local guy sounds good. getting the seat backs body coloured is on my to do list but waiting for my girls to just grow a bit more and they wont want to come out with me in the car so no more kicking in the back :thumb: :thumb:
I done mine last year. Makes a big difference to the car. Although the wife wasn't happy about taking the seat apart in the front room!
Great line! For what it's worth, it's probably better to get the seatbacks painted and lacquered, as the seats will need to come out and get disassembled anyway. And you could have the centre console done at the same time.
I would have thought wrapping the seat back would be easy. I stripped mine to paint body colour to match the centre console but as I have wrapped my car and in particular the front and rear bumpers I don't see a problem wrapping the seat backs, they are not an overly complicated shape and any wrapper worth his salt should be able to do them easily?
I enquirer once, the wrap bloke said can be done, but "never again" Seats would still need stripping back completely. Too much leather / electrics / airbags etc to be damaged with the heat guns they use.... So by the time you've done that, you may as well painted and lacquered.
You don't really use that much heat, just a little to soften the vinyl before you apply it then a little to manipulate, if they are heating things up that much that they damage electrics they are heating the material far too much. But yes, if you are stripping them to wrap, you may as well paint them.
Wouldn't you need to take the leather off to wrap to the edge? In which case the seats will be apart anyway. I got mine painted and lacquered, cost £300. If you wanted a carbon look, I'd go for hydrodipping.
In theory you wouldn't need to remove the back, just cut the vinyl up to the leather and tuck in. Without looking there are some parts of the leather that are clipped in and can be pulled away from the back without even taking the seat out, I just can't remember if you can do this all the way around. Even if you can't a decent wrapper should be able to hide the edge of the vinyl.
Yes that just what I had heard Guy :thumb: :thumb:
My seat backs are a leather/ette covering, but they are quite firm to the touch. Are these wrappable ? They are def not any hard plastic type seat backs. Ideally I would like them CF or body colour if poss to wrap. ..sorry not trying to hijack the thread
Sounds like you have the comfort seats not the sports seats in yours mate , not many options for them except getting them retrmmed in leather , alcantara or leatherette in another style :thumb: :thumb:
Ive never seen anyone do anything to the leatherette back on the comfort seats. I basically swapped my comfort to sports seats just so i could get the backs painted body coloured. They look loads better but i don't actually find them super comfortable!! At some point im going to fit 997 sports seats.
