I am not sure what it is like in your local town but in Worcestershire Porsche 996, 997 and Boxsters are plentiful but no one ever seems to raise so much as a finger off the wheel. Back in the days of my Golf GTi's, Honda S2000's etc everyone said hi in one way or another, lights flashing and the odd wave but I feel it isn't the same in the Porsche, it is almost like they are too good for you a will not lower themselves to acknowledge any other Porsche driver. So.... the past two weeks has been an experiment. I have blatently tried to acknowledge oncoming fellow Porsche drivers. Out of well in excess of 20 passes only 1 has flashed back Is it like this by you?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

North Derbyshire seems to be just the same. It's a very different story when I'm out on two wheels on the viffer - I'm glad to see "most" of the bikers generally acknowledge each other, particularly en-route to Matlock Bath. It's interesting to note that most 944 drivers acknowledge each other, as long as the headlight motor still works...... 8) The question is - should we acknowledge each other? :dont know: Poll time perhaps?
This is my point, my mate has a 1978 911 & he always gets the odd flash of lights, wave etc I really do think it just 986, 996, 987 & 997 that don't acknowledge one another. Perhaps it is telling us all summat? A poll would be good.
drove a vw corrado for years before owning the 996 always waved or flashed and got a responce 90-95 % of the time , only done the same in the posche 4 or 5 times and still get most respond maybe a welsh thing and porsche's are not that common around here Rob
Always seem to end up flashing bemused boxster owners :? Ah the joys of 996.1 ownership
I am water-cooled, therefore I do not acknowledge your poll ! I had a 1961 (air-cooled) Beetle and waved at every other Beetle (or they waved at me if I was too slow) PS - just realised that's the same field/fence as in my sig pic!
I don't wave at Porsches any more for obvious reasons (although there have been occasions where I have forgotten I don't have one any more and waved at a 911    ) However, I do have a motorhome and cannot believe that most motorhome drivers AND passengers wave at every motorhome they see Even across 6 lanes of a motorway!!! FFS, there must be tens of thousands of the things - hardly and exclusive band of enthusiasts any more... :hand: Nutters...
Ive given up whats the point? Never had a response :?:
Have acknowledged 993 & 964 drivers and only once got a half-hearted response from a fellow 993 driver. Needless to say I won't be doing it anymore...
Lloyd, you should have a button that says 'depends on the Porsche' - Aircooled drivers often share a wave, watercooled never, unless specials like GT3 IMHO. LOJO
I'm an ex-S2000 driver as well and I'd guess I used to get a wave or a flash from 90% of other S2000 drivers. In the porsche I've had practically zero acknowledgement from other porsche drivers. Apart from a 996 turbo driver who wanted to do formations with me on the M25
I had a good chat with a 993 cab owner in a Shell station the other night, he started the conversation! Shock horror, aircooled and watercooled together! Turns out he also has a 996C4S and a 997 cab which may account for the unusuall aircooled openminded-ness 8) I'm always way too happy to chat away about Porsche... :thumb:
Did you find when in the S2000 you had the odd wave/flash from RX8 owners (they look so similar from the front) I also found when I upgraded from the S2000 to the Porsche a huge drop in courtesy from other road users. I actually became paranoid about it. In the S2000 I felt respect but in the 911 more likely to get notso nice hand gestures!
I think a wave or even a flash just adds a certain something to a journey. Its about the journey and sharing the experience with fellow travellers who share your spirit of adventure etc etc Those that flash, wave etc, get it, those that dont well what can I say. I must admit that the boxter light assembly occasionally throws me a curved ball, but we are all from the same stable so a doff of the cap to our under powered siblings! It is nice, a kind of warm glow when you meet a fellow officianado! heres to continued legal flashing! :bye:
i flashed a fellow fried egg today, he didnt even look to repond, it turns out he was in a boxster, maybe not an enthusiast
