Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi there! New member here but long term Porsche owner with a 996 911 . Currently looking at a 987.2 Boxster S that's on the other side of the country. I received these inspection photos underneath the car and noticed these cracks/breaks where the control arm bolts to the subframe. Is this normal? Looks a bit sketchy to me but I'm not as familiar with the rear strut setup on these cars. Can someone please help advise? Many thanks!

POST 2Original post

Hi, Junior 23 - did perhaps the person doing the PPI send you a bit higher resolution of the photos or a close-up of what appears to be a crack? It looks odd to me, but I think seeing it a bit closer would probably make it easier to make a determination.

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to ask for more detailed pics in that area.

POST 4Original post

However, this doesn't seem like a normal thing

POST 5Original post

It doesn't - but I've seen things that on first glance look like cracks, and aren't - they're some grunge or something innocent. Difficult to tell from those photos, some closeups would be useful. IF the person doing the PPI pointed these out as cracks - then I'd be concerned and want to know what caused them.

POST 6Original post

I'm with Don, those could just be shadows from the flash.

POST 7Original post

I was able to enlarge them somewhat by opening them in a seperate image and they sure look like cracks to me. It appears as though the person doing the PPI focused on those areas for a reson and I'd depend on their comments to help make a decision whether to buy or not. Good luck.

POST 8Original post

I went out to my 987.2 (non-S) and got underneath. I don't believe that's a crack. There's a "pocket" machined in the part there, and that's the edge you're seeing. Here's a picture of mine from a similar angle: You can already see that due the lighting and closeness of the image, this doesn't look as much like a crack, but it looks similar to yours. I then took another picture to the right of this location, so you can see the "pocket" I'm talking about: So, basically, you're seeing that lip, which looks like a crack from that angle, but it's not. Again, my car is a non-S, but I expect this is the same part on your car...

Appreciate all the replies! The shop is going to take more photos for me and I'll report back for those who are curious.

POST 10Original post

Great idea! Looking at the part... and yes - looking at your photos, then looking at the original photos - that's the edge of the recess that just looks like a crack from a distance. The other thing that made me doubt it was a crack was it was on both sides, and a symmetrical failure like that would be quite unusual.

POST 11Original post

I just returned home from a trip, and wanted to take pictures of the rear suspension from the same aspect on my 2011 987.2 BS MT. As you can see, it looks the same and there are no cracks in my suspension. Bret
