Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hiya, did a brief search on this and opinions are mixed. Q: do the 12V sockets in a 987 Cayman ever turn off? or is whatever is connected to them drain the battery ? I have bought one of the cheap DVR cams to play with and it seems that even after I get out and lock the car, it keeps blinking away recording. So the power is not cut off, at least not within the 5 minutes i stood by the car before pulling the plug out. Any clear info on that? Cheers

POST 2Original post

Certainly the socket in the centre console beside the handbrake is permanently live. It is often used to connect a battery conditioner for those drivers who leave the car undriven for long periods.

POST 4Original post

Good question. I plug my TomTom into that socket but I always unplug it when I put the car away so I've never noticed if the charging light stays on.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Drat. Looks like i'm gonna have to modify the lead and put a little switch on it. Oh well! Cheers for the responses.

POST 6Original post

Depending on what you need, you could probably get an OPC or specialist to set up another socket hardwired to a switched source - rear wiper is quite useful - and then use that.

POST 8Original post

All three sockets in any 997 / Cayman / Boxster and on are always live.
