Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Could be the MAF sensor, or the AOS (Air Oil Separator). Some of the early warning signs of a failing AOS is hunting idle. On the Boxster, the symptoms seem to be more prevalent (engine smokes on start up, and hunting idle), but on the 996 the symptoms may not manifest in such an obvious way. Check engine light on?
What year? 1999 (and 2000?) non e-gas Have an idle control valve that can get gummed up and cause that.
