The Tiptronic transmission switches on my 987.1 steering wheel are chipped and in need of replacement. Do I need to take off the steering wheel to replace, or can the steering wheel stay on? Secondly, what tools do I need to complete the job (or do the switches/buttons simply come off with a pulling and pressure)? Here is a picture for reference. Thanks in advance!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking at my copy of the PET, there appears to be a screw that holds the switch in. You won't need to remove the wheel, but it looks like you do need to remove the airbag to get to the screw. See the attached screen capture. The switch is #24 and the screw #17.
Thanks! Very helpful.
