Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have an '05 Boxster S with the Bose sound system. I'd like to play discs full of MP3s, but I don't think my CD player can do that. Is there any upgrade I can get for it so that it'll play MP3 discs? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I had an 05 Boxster. It did not have have a Bose system. But it played MP3s just find. One Einstein moment that I had was I burned a bunch of songs that I downloaded from iTune and I never converted from M4Ps to MP3s and of course they did not play. Make sure all songs are MP3s.

POST 3Original post

I found a couple references that Boxsters built after April 2005 play MP3 discs, mine must have been built before then. :/

Only cars with PCM 2.1 Level B can play mp3's, Do you have the cdr-24 headunit or the PCM nav. screen head unit? If you have the PCM- Nav screen headunit, then there is a chance you can play mp3 discs. However, in the middle of 2005 they switched to a newer version of PCM (A > B), and A could not play mp3 discs. I have one of the older versions that I retrofitted into my Cayman that cannot play mp3 discs and cannot software be upgraded to play mp3 discs. - Suneet

POST 5Original post

I do have the CDR24 head unit. I couldn't find any reference to MP3s in the manual. Do I need to load the MP3 disc in to the CD changer, or is straight in to the head unit ok?

POST 6Original post

A cdr24 will not play mp3 cd's and neither will the cd changer, sorry. MP3 compatibility is only for the PCM equipped cars. - Suneet
