Hi guys. Is it possible to get the colour code from a 996 chassis number? I'm at work (with no access to the vehicle) and need to mix paint for tomorrow before I leave. It's 99 and is metallic black so I'm assuming it's either 746 or C9Z. Anyone help?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm quite sure the paint code is only on the sticker under the bonnet. This tells you what info the VIN gives http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?autocom=content&code=vin_decoder
My 01 C4 lists L744 for basalt black metallic. Not sure if it was different for '99 though.
Basalt Black C9Z wasn't introduced until MY2002. Metallic Black prior to then was 744 (water-based paint) or 746 (conventional paint).
