Just had my tranny do something really funny to me while I was driving to my moms house. I went to pull the tranny back into neutral & the shifter was loose feeling going forward & backwards. It doesn't matter if I'm moving the shifter or not, I'm stuck in the gear I was last in... The shifter won't really move left to right, but it moved freely front to back like it's completely loose. Anyone ever seen this before? I sure didn't want to drag the car 400 miles on a trailer to my dealer Nice present from my 06 Cayman S I bought 2 weeks ago....

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

More than likely, this is a problem with the cables that link the shifter to the transmission - either a cable has broken, or one of them has come loose at one end or the other - a dealer will fix under warranty... Your transmission is probably fine. If that's your closest dealer, call roadside assistance 1-800-porsche, and have them tow it there... they pay to have it towed to the nearest dealer. Btw, please don't post the same thread to two different forums... Good luck, let us know what happens. brad
Well it is still under warranty so that is the good news. Call 1-800-Porsche and explain the problem. They will most likely flat bed it to the nearest dealer and have it repaired. Did you have the car checked out prior to buying it? If so you may have some issues to discuss with who ever did that work. Assume you followed all the steps in the FAQ on buying a used Porsche.
Got it thanks guys! Will they transport if I'm 400 miles from the dealer?
yes to the nearest dealer.
