Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

For the last couple of month ,my car act like I have a bad starter after sitting for a week or two and on the battery maintainer.i have a new battery and the car was serviced lately.if I keep turning the key on and off(it makes clicking sound) it eventuly start right up and works all day until it is parked again for a period of time. it doesn't happen all the time,so I am worried about it not cranking up one day. any help is appreciated it.

POST 2Original post

Has the starter been replaced or is it original? Mine went last year, on my 2007 CS. I guess 11 years is a reasonable lifetime for a starter. Replacing it was not difficult.

POST 3Original post

a bad starter won't give you repetitive clicks. it will likely give you one single click, that's the solenoid being stuck. repetitive clicking is typically indicative of a dead battery . A battery maintainer won't make a battery last forever though. check your battery for its build date. If it's over 5 years old, just throw a new one in there, it's realistically due anyway.

POST 4Original post

I replaced the battery four month ago with interstate battery .the car after running will crank up fine all day and sometimes I have no issues even when it sits for couple weeks.

POST 5Original post

So if I'm understanding correctly, you turn the key 10 times or so and get nothing but clicking; then the next time it cranks and starts normally; it continues to start normally the rest of the day, with the cycle repeated the next day. Is the clicking the typical loud solenoid clicking noise you get with very low battery voltage, or just something going on inside the car? One good step towards diagnosing the issue is to have someone measure battery voltage while you attempt to start. If on a just-clicking event the battery voltage stays high, say above 10V, then the battery is probably not bad, and you may have an intermittent connection on the ignition switch (can't find a schematic to verify the electrical path) or solenoid/starter. If battery voltage goes low, under say 6V, then either the battery or starter are likely at fault, and based on your symptoms it does seem more likely to be a starter/solenoid. I have had starters go bad (non- Porsche vehicles) that drew too much current and made starting sound just like a bad battery . Most of my experience is with non- Porsche vehicles so maybe someone else has better info.

POST 6Original post

might have a faulty switch on the clutch that enables you to start the car. they all go bad, just a matter of when not if. plenty of information on the full site about r/r that switch, not a horrible job......let us know what you ultimately find out..

POST 7Original post

Start simple - just because the battery is new doesn't guarantee it's good. Have it checked at any parts store. If it's good, then you can move on from there. If it's bad, there should be some sort of warranty at Interstate.

POST 8Original post

show us a video of you going through the motions so we can see and hear what is going on. It's going to be okay 'stani, we'll get through this. ?

POST 9Original post

Of course ,I just went to the garage to shoot a video of it not starting and it starts right up with no issue.i did after reading more moved my floor mat away from the pedal, not sure it that had anything to do with it.

POST 10Original post

Yes the floor mat could be it. The clutch pedal needs to be all the way in to get that switch to connect. if your pedal is hitting the floor mat, it might not get all the way down. That switch could also be going bad, as cpgaylor mentioned.
