Who wouldn't want this car? All the reviews are not just good, but excellent. I, like many of you on this site want this car NOW! But I have yet to place my order and am not sure if I should and wait 5 months or just settle on one that a dealer may have that is not pre-sold and probably does not have all the options that I want. Does anybody know if the Navigation can be installed at the dealer if it is not already on the car? Can't wait until you guys get your cars so I can read more excellent threads!

MJFDDS, Welcome to the site! The short answer to your question on installing the factory nav system to a car that doesn't have it is probably no. As an example, I did not order the Sports Chrono and I called my service manager to see what it would take to install one. He described the process and because the car is built around the components at the factory it would be extremely difficult and very costly to do. He discouraged the idea and I am sorry to say that I agree with him now. You would be better off trying to install an aftermarket NAV, but it would never be the same I am sure. Russ

POST 3Original post

Thanks for th info. and reply Russ. I had another question that someone I am sure will be able to answer. Is there much of a difference between the partial leather and full leather esthetically speaking. Would the full leather make the car look "that much better" ? Matt

POST 4Original post

I think so, I ordered it. Mainly for the stiching around where the PCM or stereo goes. You also get extra around the e-brake and doors. From this site, you can download the Cayman S Order Guide. It shows a picture of the interior with little numbers and descriptionsso you can see exactly what you get.

POST 5Original post

This is really personal but I think the full leather makes the car look better. The interiors on the 997 and 987 are much nicer than their predecessors and I didn't think full leather was necessary on the new cars. After seeing them I decided they did make the cars look richer and more luxurious. You won't notice it while you are driving but if you look you will see the texture of the dash and door panels are nicer in leather. Is it worth $2,000 to you? Only you can answer that one. If money is tight buy the standard vinyl interior and enjoy driving the car. I wouldn't put off getting the car because of it as the standard interior is more than acceptable.[/quote]

POST 6Original post

With this site you are going to get many different views, I dont think that the full leather is something you should spend money on unless you really love leather. The actual seats arent anymore comfortable, and the full leather will show more wear, but the accents around the rest of the interior are nice. The sport seats are quite nice, and had I had the money would have considered them. I think there are better places to spend your money rather then the full leather option.

POST 7Original post

Welcome MJFDDS! I'm sure Russ will have good answer for you also..... IMO the full leather takes the car up to another level in the looks/luxury department.......but of course does nothing for performance. You have to decide which is more important.......looks, performance, or saving the money for something else. The spec I selected for my car was a mixture of items I knew I would enjoy everyday I drove it. So while I did not choose PASM for $2k (didn't think it was necessary for street driving), I did choose full leather for $2k as I will enjoy the look and smell every minute I drive it. Full leatheris full leather seats, upper and lower dash, center column sides, and door panels. It's not absolutely necessary......but it sure does look fantastic!

Matt - day or two ago an Italian member posted pictures of his car - full leather - there was a picture of the interior. If you were on the fence on this item, after seeing the picture you will not be any more /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif I think you should count yourself lucky that there are now cars out there to look at - most of us had to buy based on pictures and in the end I think Porsche looses, as many people would have added more options if there were good pictures and descriptions. As to the issue of wait till May - I ordered my car in Oct. but will not be able to drive it till Apr. - the joy of Canadian winter, but even if this was a spring or a summer time, I would spec the car the way I want it, and wait ( I have done that with all my previous BMWs ). In summary, welcome, and enjoy the sleepless nights thinking about what options to add ( the selection guide is 56 pages long !!!! ) /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif

Navigation can definitelybe retrofitted to the Cayman (it is available for the Boxster) but it will cost a lot more than if you had it factory installed. I have it in my Cayman but I doubt if I will ever use it it other than for long journies to parts unknown. It seems extremely capable but also extremely, extremelyfiddly. If you need reading glasses as I do then you will probably not be able tofocus onthe screen whilst driving (unless you have varifocals) so a lot of the benefit is not available to you. I find the TomTom Go 700to have a much more intuitive user interface. And the spoken instructions on the TomTom seem to come much earlier (in the European TomTomversion, not North American which is as slow as Porsche's). There doesn't seem much merit in having a voice tell you to 'turn left' (or whatever) when you are in the middle of a junction. I was going to have my 997 retrofitted with navigation but nowI have seen it and used it I am not going to bother. The Sport Chrono, however,is not something that is available for retrofit, although I believe that if you don't want the clock it actually would be very easy to do (technically). But that would mean a loss of revenue for Porsche so they are unlikely to facilitate such a thing. It would require programming at a dealer.

OK...I am in need of some opinions here. I can either order and wait until late April early May, or Beverly Hills Porsche has: 2006 Cayman S 987 120 Price BASE Porsche Base Model 58,900.00 A1 Black 0.00 A1 Black Top 0.00 AP Black Sport Seats 0.00 C02 U.S. Standard/Emissions 0.00 P74 Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package 1,090.00 342 Heated Front Seats 480.00 573 Automatic Climate Control 550.00 680 Bose Surround Sound System 950.00 M6A Black Mats - Porsche lettering 115.00 P16 PCM 2.1 2,970.00 640 Sport Chrono Package Plus 920.00 435 Sport Steering Wheel 250.00 475 PASM 1,990.00 P01 Adaptive Sport Seats 3,055.00 666 Module for Telephone PCM 960.00 446 Wheel Caps with Colored Crest 185.00 ------------------------- Total with Options $ 72,415.00 ------------------------- DSTCHG Destination Charge 795.00 ------------------------- Total Charges $ 795.00 ------------------------- Total Order $ 73,210.00 The only thing that I would order differently would be full leather, Carrera classics. and sport shifter. Other than that, these are the options I would include in my order. I will trade out the wheels to Carerra classics, but unfortunately I have to do this on my own as the dealership will not do this for me. They refferd me to a wheel shop. ANY THOUGHTS? (I am sure there are :0)

POST 11Original post

Well you can add the sport shifter yourself for a minimal cost, you can trade out the rims (can you send me the name of the wheel shop, as I too have decided that I want to swap my carrera S wheels for classics) so all you really have to decide is how bad you want the full leather? If you wanted black on black anyway, I would just go for it and be one of the first to own one. Full leather really is just a vanity option, which isnt a bad thing at all, but something that you could very easily live without.

POST 12Original post

MJFDDS, Welcome to the site, PM me and I will give you the info on a dealer that has a black car in port already and if it has the options you want you can get it right away.
