My dad's offered to get me Adrian Streather's "Porsche 996: Supreme Porsche Essential Companion" book for Christmas but he's managed to find 2 versions and wants to know which one is best. I'd only come across the black and white version, at Amazon (see first link below - hopefully it's worked!) but he's managed to find what looks like a colour version as well (second link). Any recommendatins from those who have the book? Has anyone got the colour one and is it worth the extra? Many thanks Toby http://www.amazon.co.uk/Porsche-996-Supreme-Essential-Companion/dp/1845840968 http://www.motorbase.com/shop/profiles/by-id/19129/

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Oh bu99er! I got the black and white one. Oh well, at least it was a relative bargain at less than 30 squid. I am sure the colour pics are lovely (note: only some are), but there are so many pictures in the book, they are generally only a couple of inches square. The book is mainly description, tables and lots of diagrams. To be honest, black and white images of components and internal structures is no real loss (may possibly be clearer). At the end of the day, the "bits" are pretty much all metallic grey anyway. Now, colour exterior "portraiture" of the 996 form definitely justifies itself, but this just isn't that kind of coffee-table book. You could just ignore the above from a disgruntled greyscale voyeur, you enjoy the technicolor if that's your bag.
Oops, sorry GT4, didn't mean to upset you. Sounds like the black and white version will be more than adequate and appears to be a lot cheaper too, so maybe I can justify getting something else for my P&J as well :thumb:
Not upset (much) as I have had it over a year (it takes almost that long to read!) so the colour one may not have been out when I looked around, plus I have a handy extra £20 to put in the petrol tank
