On my way to doing the IMS retrofit on my 2003 996 C4S for precautionary/preventative reasons, I initially drained and strained the oil, dissected the filter and removed the sump cover to investigate for any signs of trouble. The only thing I found was these 4 small pieces in the sump. Any ideas of where they may have originated?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Engine sealant, nothing to worry about.
And quite brittle: that thin, crescent-shaped piece easily snapped when I picked it up between my fingers.
