Hi Went to get in my 996 Cabriolet tonight and the drivers door won't open from the outside. The interior light comes on and it drops the window the slight amount like it's supposed to but the door doesn't open. Had to open passenger side and open drivers door from inside handle which is working. Any ideas? pickers

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Item 9 or 12 on the attached. The microswitch will still be working, but the handle won't be connected to the lock. That's my guess anyway.
Hi, Found this link http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/510797-passenger-door-issue.html Is the handle loose? Does it feel like the arm has popped off? Which also links to another page re taking a Boxter door to bits. Hope it helps. - David
Handle feels normal - i.e. not loose or like anything has broken. Thanks will take a look.
this happened my previous car, C2. Fixable for free depending on what has gone wrong. In my case the plastic threaded receiver (part 12) for the bolt (part 9) had split in two lengthwise. Fixed by (with dexterity and difficulty) resetting it by hand through the door liner. A little wire around it would have secured further no doubt. Had the same problem on my 2000 C2 last winter. After taking the door trim off, it was found that item 9 on the door trim pdf had rusted through and broke. I believe that this is a common problem...... On the up side, although a little fiddy, it wasn't as difficult to get at the door handle mechanism as i thought it was going to be.
