Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2002 Boxster base 2.7 Tiptronic. What year motors would fit? I'm looking for direct swap or close. ( I'd have no problem swapping parts, if needed. ) I know the chains and cams changed in certain years, so that's a factor. Is there a way to tell without tearing the motor apart which chain/cam setup it has? Also, would I need to get a motor from Tip or would one from a Manual work? Thankfully I don't need it now, (knock on wood, I know I just jinxed myself) I'm just wondering in case I ever come across a spare motor at a good price. Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

Motronics changed in 2003 for the 3 chain engine. 2002 or earlier shouldn't cause problems.
