Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Cabrio's been parked up for the last week or so. I connected it up to the Optimate so the cold weather didn't take its toll on the battery. Had to move it today, so I press the 'unlock' button on the keyfob.....nothing, zilch! I keep pressing it, thinking the battery in the keyfob is duff, but the red light's flashing each time I press it. So.....I then unlock the driver's door with the key....and all hell lets loose as the alarm nearly bursts my eardrums.... Then I press the button again....alarm switches off, doors unlock and re-lock perfectly. Am I right in thinking this is normal behaviour? I'm sure I've read about it before, but can't find it now. If it is normal, why does it do it and what purpose does it serve other than to waken the dead?! Pete

POST 2Original post

Perfectly normal. When you leave the car locked and alarmed for 5+ days then the alarm goes into 'sleep mode' IIRC. Remote key unlock won't work so you have to manually unlock, you then have 10sec to put the key in the ignition and turn to position 1. If not, as you know, all hell breaks loose. :thumb:

POST 3Original post

Yep, I learnt this one the noisy way, and so did the neighbours....about 6 in the morning!

POST 4Original post

Me too. Look at it as a rite of passage into 911 ownership...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's good news....thanks chaps! I didn't have to put the key in the ignition though, I didn't even open the door......I think I re-locked the door with the key and then pressed the unlock button on the fob....or something similar! Thanks again. Pete

POST 6Original post

Me too, with all hell breaking loose I don't recall putting the key in the ignition. Just pressing the fob , shutting doors and swearing profusely. Nice to know what to do next time :thumb: TB
