Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Preview of one very special Porsche 911 - YouTube Some people were saying the GT3 would be PDK only. I'm guessing they were referring to the street GT3 (not the RS/cup cars), as you can clearly see a clutch and brake pedal in this clip.

POST 2Original post

Cup cars have sequential trans, not PDK. No surprise here.

POST 3Original post

yeah, the real question was if the street version of the GT3 will be PDK only like the Turbo S. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2012/09/2014-porsche-gt3-prototypes-spotted-in-spain-video.html

POST 5Original post

AFAIBT A manual might be available at extra cost. Std would be PDK.

They will make the gt3 in manual I guarantee it

POST 8Original post

The most interest I think is the engine. I assume the 991 has the DFI engine and the Metzger engine is history. Also it appears the center console did make the cut for racing.

POST 9Original post

From what I've read so far elsewhere, the 991 Cups will retain the Metzger engines. With the street 991 GT3 going with the DFI, it'll make for a good argument that the new GT3 is really just a GTS version of the 991...

POST 10Original post

Is there confirmation on the Cup cars retaining the Metzger engine? If the Cup cars retain the Metzger engine it speaks very poorly for Porsche's opinion of the DFI engine and, possibly worse, Porsche's unwillingness to develop a race worthy engine for its production sports cars. Agree that the 991 GT3 will not be the same car as its predecessors. In my opinion it finally renders the Cup cars totally irrelevant to the production sports cars. So much for win on Sunday and sell on Monday.

POST 12Original post

The M96 is arguably one of Porsche's most problematic engines, the M97 somewhat improved upon, neither was suitable for racing. The new 9A1 block did away with the IMS and improved the pseudo dry sump of the M96/97 series. Its use in the Turbo was a positive step, but it remains unsuitable for racing as is, and Porsche is unwilling to develop it into a race worthy engine. This devalues the GT3, in particular, and the sports cars in general. If Porsche is just another German luxury car marque like the others then it is of no concern, but Porsche once projected a legitimate motorsprts image for its production sports cars. The brand is further diluted by the GT3 equipped with a non race wothy motor, wheelbase notwithstanding.

POST 14Original post

I think that professional race series (where brands are mandated to have close pound per HP ratios and reliability to suite marketing needs ) have little impact on "brand value". Given the performance advantage of normally aspirated 991s over the normally aspirated 997s across the board, I hardly think the brand is diluted. The GT3 is not a serious race car, Metzger or marketing aside. I would also bet that the 991 GT3 street car will recover its advantage on the Carrera S and be as desirable as ever to people who want an exciting, reliable and (almost) practical track focused car.

POST 16Original post

What about the rumor mill that the GT3's engine will creep forward more to an almost mid engine design.... since it doesn't need a back seat? I think its pure rumor, but I would love to see that happen for the better balance.

POST 17Original post

That one goes with the pre LA auto show rumor about the Cayman turbo 4.
