Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

how do you mean it's not working? it's not providing enough power to pop the bonnet, ie. you're not trying to jump it via the fuse box?
Just in case... the jump start points are in the engine bay.
I do hope not! I dread to think the damage that could be caused.
I assume you mean putting 12v through the fuse that controls the locking and alarm to open the bonnet? There are two fuses that control this and I found the lower one worked fine on mine and caused no damage at all.
Manual Operation of Front boot Does anybody have a sensible answer to the post ??? i have the same problem. If the battery is particularly flat; the fuse box + spare battery solution fails. The cable for the boot runs behind the front drivers headlight i have been told and to get to it you need to remove the inner arch and perhaps wheel also. If anybody has a step by step guide this would be helpful. thks
Re: Manual Operation of Front boot I'm sure someone will correct me - but the cable may run on the opposite side in certain circumstances (my vague memory say's if it's a tip' then it's the passenger side)?
Re: Manual Operation of Front boot On a manual cable release[ earlier cars] it's on the passenger side, unless someone moved it. TB
I had this problem in my old 996 Carrera. Completely flat battery so couldn't open front bonnet to get to the battery. I tried getting to the cable release but couldn't do it without having to dismantle too much of the car. However, I realised that I could get access to the engine bay as that didn't have an electronic lock. Once I had access to the engine bay it was a simple matter of connecting a battery charger or another car to the jump points. I have subsequently bought a trickle charger, which I keep connected to the cigarette lighter in my car whenever I'm not going to use it for more than a few days. It wasn't expensive (around £30 or so from my local Porsche dealer) and has reduced my stress levels considerably!
Hi Guys and gals, Forgive me if I'm not at the races here but my 996 has been sat up for nearly 2 weeks in the snow etc. Tried to start her today and she was turning over but not starting. Left it till I came home from work tonight and the same result. Am i right in thinking I can get the leads out and start her, drive her around for a while and battery will be fine or is it the start of the demise of my battery? If so what battery do you recommend?. I'm hoping the fact that it still turns over that I'll just open the engine bay and start her from another car. Regards, Baz.
A jump start and a decent drive should do it - I am pleased if my new battery last two weeks with the car sitting, particularly in this weather!
Sorted Chauch, started on the jump leads and gave her a 20 min run. Cheers.
Difficult to say about battery without testing it. However, in my experience (and that of friends with 996s), even a new battery in a 996 will go flat in 2 or 3 weeks if unused in the cold. I'd try jump leads and a good drive and then go for the aforementioned trickle charger if possible.
Cheers :thumb:
Can defo recommend trickle charger- it'll help here as said above as it can be plugged into the lighter socket so you can ping the bonnet open. I've also found that it 'repairs' batteries that are not holding their charge well- our Audi A8 got low battery power issues after lots of little local trips in cold weather, and even a decent drive only gave temporary respite. A day or so on the trickle charger with a conditioning function seemed to sort it out.
