So I haven't found a satisfactory or clear method to do the following: 1. Keep PCM3 head unit 2. Maintain universal audio interface (USB/Aux port) 3. Maintain bluetooth phone calls 4. BUT then upgrading the standard speakers and adding a sub. I'm not looking for something crazy, but if the quality can be similar to my 3 series premium stereo (one up from the standard German tin cans), I would be happy. I am not expecting a home theater on wheels. Would an official Porsche option/upgrade exist? What component brands have people purchased? Amps? Subwoofer? I don't want to screw up the original wiring. Does the head unit have a garbage feed for AUX/USB input? Anything to clean it up? Thanks

I'll tell you what I did. My car has PCM3 with sound system plus. This means there's an amp under the passenger seat, and the head unit has low level outputs (appear to be 1.5-2V pre-amp) that go to the amp. I'm running those into an audison ap8.9 bit, and I have some Focal 165 a3 3-ways in the doors/dash. I bridged 2 channels of the ap8.9 to power the 6.5", and have one channel each to the mids and tweets. Then I have a JL jx500-1 going to the stealthbox in the rear. Soundscape in Plano TX did the tuning and install. Both amps are in the battery compartment area in the frunk, without taking panels off you'd never know it's there. This setup sounds awesome, but the hatch rattles like a POS. It's on my list of things to do to get the hatch dynamat and silenced so I can listen to it at full volume.
So would the head unit lack connections in a non SSP package? I assume I would have the same stuff in back of the head unit, and I would just need to get an amp and new speakers to throw in the doors. Anyway out there to avoid the JL stealthbox? I'm trying to keep both frunk and trunk space. I don't know if there is another mount area. Do the cars with Bose have a special compartment available in the footwell? Or is there a good compact subwoofer that can be thrown under the seats?
