I have just had my renewal through for my C4S and I was surprised to see that a years road tax is £215, 6 months £118. Is this correct? I was expecting it to go up not down! I was expecting to be paying over £400 because of the C02 levels and the fact that it was manufactured after 2001. I have just been online to renew and fortunately found out that I am not properly insured. I forgot to inform them about my private plate. Do you think I am likely to get away with paying just £215 for the year?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Band K - if your car is registered before 23.03.06, the excise licence is capped at (currently) £215 per annum.
Tax would have been £210 last year and £215 this year. You say you forgot to tell them about your private registration. To put a private registration on your car you have to take your V5,MOT certificate and entitlement letter to your local DVLA or send to Swansea. They then give you a new MOT certificate with your new registration, now you can put on you new number plates, inform your insurance company and you will receive a new V5 in a couple of weeks from Swansea.
Good news then, looks like £215 for this year then? When I say I forgot to tell them about my private plate - I mean the insurance company. UP until yesterday evening, the car was stil insured under the original license plate. The OPC wanted me to collect the car before the end of the month, but they didn't have time to sort out the cherished transfer. The transfer came through about 6 weeks later, by which time I had forgotten all about it.
Interesting, mine was £400 for 30/04/08 to 30/04/09 for an 04 C4S. I didn't receive a reminder last April so was all set to pay £400 or so based on emissions and what I'd paid the time before. I'm sure this was confirmed by the dvla web site when I punched my details in. However when I went to the post office they said it was £215, which I happily paid. So if the true rate is capped at £215 should I be due a rebate for the previous year?
I have only had the car since September 2009 and got the dealer to put 6 months tax on for me. I checked the tax disc this morning and I was charged over £200 for the six months. So had I put 12 months on in September I too would have been charged £400.
£190 for my Turbo    0-60 in 4.0 seconds for the less VED as a 1.9 diesel Astra!
