Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive done quite a bit of searching on the forum and there are a few threads on this subject. I have a few questions which i just need some clarification on. 1/ Is the TIP on a 996TT still only 5 speed 2/ does this affect in gear performance (lots of debate on standing start and 0-100 - about a second slower 0-100 - slightly off putting for me as I want to try and get the quickest i can for budget without too many mods..) 3/ the car i will be looking at is an X50...which will be remapped at some point. Can the TIP handle the 510ish HP and torque increase? I actually enjoyed some 'sprited' drivng in my mates M3 in 'manual' mode. I am yet to try a tip from porsche, only been taken out in one. That is of course if I dont fall in love with the GT3 that I am HOPEFULLY looking at in the same area!

POST 2Original post

I have a Tip, and love it. It is my daily driver, and it makes the cross-town commute much more relaxing than a manual in the stop-start traffic. I drive it in manual mode all the time, and on the open road it is still lots of fun. The 'box is made by Mercedes, and they are very tough. It will handle the tweaking you are likely to do. The only thing to look out for is ATF leaks, which are fixable, but not by an OPC. Yes, they are all 5-speed. In the real world, point-to-point, I doubt there is much in it between a Tip and manual, but you really need to try both before you decide. A lot depends on how you are going to use it, and if ultimate potential performance is the only thing you are considering, then it probably won't be a Tip.
