Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2002 Boxster (Base) and the engine serial number has AT in it. Actual number is: M96/22AT65265202. I read several posts in this forum that indicated the AT means it was a porsche rebuilt engine. Is that indeed true? I am asking because I am trying to understand when/if it has the newer IMS bearings.

POST 2Original post

AT indicates that it is a factory rebuilt engine. Which IMS bearing is in it depends upon WHEN it was rebuilt.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

JFT many thanks for confirmation. Is there any way to determine when the engine was rebuilt/replaced? I went to a Prosche dealer nearby and they were really useless.

POST 4Original post

Engine serial numbers have 8 digits. 1st digit - No of Cylinders 2nd digit - Engine Version 3rd digit - Model Year 4th-8th digit - Serial Number
