Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got my 2002 C4 about three weeks ago, and the previous owner, as well as the PPI shop attributed the gear grinding going into 2nd as a worn clutch. The clutch did indeed need replacement, and has made the shifting better, but I still have an occasional issue going from 1st to 2nd, and more frequently downshifting from 3rd into 2nd. I would imagine the suspects could be a worn synchro gear for 2nd and/or a possible air bubble in the clutch hydraulic line that would cause the clutch to not fully disengage when I press on the pedal. Any ideas of what else might be at play here? Thanks, all!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't know. All the focus to date has been on the clutch. Is that a likely issue? Could it affect only 2nd gear? Thanks for the insight!

Second is the one that acts up first, so yes, it could.
