Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amigos, may wife just asked me a question that I thought was interesting -"What is the one thing about your Targa or 996 that you love the most" I personally would have to say - HANDLING Interested to hear others...

POST 2Original post

i agree rj--handling is the porsche's finest asset-- it is also quite reliable- especially for a sports car another advantage of all 911's is upright posture and the best forward visibility of any car. this makes them a great pleasure to use as a daily drivers

POST 3Original post

The tangible advantages are obvious - handling, braking, engine, shape, etc.. But to me, it is that intangbile link to the past each time I drive mine that is the coolest aspect. "*I* drive a 911!" sorta sums it for me

POST 4Original post

Real world-2+2 Seating(have one girl plus a wife)-for a sports car 996 fits the bill. Emotionwise-handling/braking-overall great package. Rewgards. Mike

POST 5Original post

Emotion. I have driven and owned lots of sports cars, but there is something about the felling I get behind the wheel of my 911 that I have never experienced before. For a brief moment all seems right with the world while I am carving up my favorite desolate road. I literally drive the car if I feel under the weather and I usually feel better physically and emotionally. All things are in balance.

POST 6Original post

Sheer pleasure of driving it. It is a whole lot of things. Rather than enumerate all the things that contribute to it and then pick one, I just pick the one whole thing that makes me like the car so much. It is a pleasure to drive, more so than any car I have ever owned.

POST 8Original post

Most practical supercar ever, handling, engine/PSE sound

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank You My Brothers For Your Quick Replies, I agree with you all, the 911 is truly an emotional experience unlike any other. No wonder it's the benchmark for others to follow, The pride of driving such a wonderful machine, admired by all, The feeling it conveys to the driver, the confidence it inspires, Thanks again, I love this Forum, this is what it's all about.

POST 10Original post

Even with the rough ride and road noise, it is still by far the most FUN car to drive. Nothing else compares. On top of that, it is very reliable. What more could you ask of a car?

POST 11Original post

"What is the one thing about your Targa or 996 that you love the most" That it's all mine!

POST 12Original post

The joy my kids show when I agree we'll be driving "daddy's hotwheel" (particularly with the top down - even for simple errands).

POST 13Original post

That it scares the crap out of me!! (Bought it last September, and went in storage in October). I still have to get used to it. David '03 C2 '88 951

POST 14Original post

It's the entire ownership experience. It's not just about the crest on the bonnet; it's the connection I feel with the car and the extensive heritage it evokes. The 911 is arguably the only sports car that has retained its true identity in every aspect ever since its inception. From the legendary rear-mounted boxer-6, the superb driving dynamics, to its timeless and unmistakable styling, there's just nothing quite like it.

POST 16Original post

Or.... I like playing cat and mouse. Even when I'm the mouse.

POST 17Original post

The one thing that i really ,really love about my 996 is...........Everytime I drive it , it Puts a HUGH Smile on my face, No car has ever done that time and time again...

POST 19Original post

That it sits next to my M5. Big brother, lilttle brother, both kicks *** in their own way.

POST 21Original post

looks, mystique, pedigree, exclusivity...every time i turnover the engine, i'm reminded of the car's racing lineage i.e. 917, 935, 956, gt1, etc, etc. re performance...i just wish it had more. i guess that's why they make the gt3, gt2, cgt, etc

POST 22Original post

I possibly can't put in words the sheer exilaration I feel each time i am behind the wheels of my 03'C4S. It is the whole package, but if i were to pick that one feature, it definitely be the handling. There is a 360 exit ramp with the right banking in town, and i try to take my family and friends who asks for a ride there and if empty let it rip, i swear i can feel me blacking out from the sheer g-force and yet the car is as composed as ever. Then they realise why i refuse to call my porsche a mear car (If my family and friends ever asks about the porsche and mentions the word "car" I jokingly correct them and say lets just say porsche, i've driven cars before, trust me this is nothing like it). I've lusted over the 911 for as long as i can remember, but it had surpassed all my expectation (my brain is incapable of expecting something this grand.) There is no substitute.

POST 24Original post

My father in law's explanation is, there's never a time you go to drive the car and don't think "boy, I'm really going to enjoy this." When I got mine, I started telling him how much I liked it. He cut me off -- said I'd really understand in 6 months when I STILL loved getting in the car EVERY SINGLE TIME I went to drive it. Well, I'm only 3 months in, but I'm beginning to understand... Oh, and beyond that, let's see... ...handling... ...that great engine sound (this one I didn't understand until I got my own to drive)... (oh, and I don't even have PSE)... ...the gorgeous curves when you're washing the car... ...I could go on for hours

POST 26Original post

Its oh so sexy curves. Its mellifluent music, Its indefatigable handling. Its blindingly fast and furious. Its instant ability to turn heads and drop jaws. As one guy once said to me "Now that's what I call a real car". But what I don't like about it is its Jekyl & Hyde effect: I seem turn into a raving monster as soon as I get into it!

POST 27Original post

I am glad to hear someone else out there feels this way too. I only take my C4S out on a bone dry sunny one, I don't trust the monster in me.

POST 28Original post

Jeeva, I am serious too. I mean just yesterday I had to drive back from my main office 200 miles away. I started out with loads of time just wanting to pace myself. The weather was good, top down, music playing. All I wanted to do was take it easy. So I set out to just criuse the speed limit on the motorway. Sheyiiiit! As soon as I hit the concrete.......vroooom I was off. I just couldn't help myself. The car does it to me. It says "go on, stick your foot down man".....no I mean it.....it talks to me.

POST 29Original post

I hear those same damn monstrous voices too, and this bloody monster has a big mouth and apparanltly no ears, as it never listens to me (also, want to make it very clear that I don't take any undue risks, only on open hwys, trust me there is plenty of open hwys in dayton for the monster to act out)

POST 30Original post

The full, rich sensory experience: It is drop dead gorgeous. It sounds like nothing else. It smells luxurious in the cabin and like a race car in the engine bay. It feels like a single, well-executed mechanical "thought". Pure, automotive heaven

POST 31Original post

The new exhaust noise on the 2003 996, especially when the top is down. Beats any radio station or CD to me. I have never listened to a radio or CD while in the Porsche.

POST 33Original post

Every drive in it is a thrill! : ) The sound of the PSE ! The handling! The car has such a great heritage! Mark

POST 35Original post

All the above and in summary: it's the ultimate driver's car - without substitute!
