Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

GT3 configurator is live on the German and UK sites. LED headlights - never expected this from Porsche so soon.

POST 2Original post

I had no idea LED's were capable of such high light output until recently when I picked up a Surefire Fury LED flashlight, 500 lumens in a tiny package. It will burn your retinas out if you're not careful! Although xenons have the brightness and longevity, the power savings of the LED's make them a better choice. I think the Audi R8 V10 was the first car with all LED headlights a few years ago.

POST 3Original post

Toyota offered it as early as 2010 on the Prius also. I remember because I almost spec'd my wifes with them three years ago.

POST 4Original post

I have to ask what do these cost in the configurator vs. Xenons? Xenons are more expensive to produce and require the ballasts, LEDs are cheap and don't require the ballast, if offered at the same price there is a lot more profit in the LEDs....

POST 5Original post

In Germany I believe bi-xenon is standard. LED is 2.832,20 €. However, it's not only about manufacturing costs, but also development costs. Bi-xenons are on the market for more than 10 years and it's a fairly common technology now, produced by hundreds of manufacturers, which means price for them should be next to nothing.

POST 6Original post

paco's figure is LED with some other options, so it's not the price for just LED. This is how it looks in the German configurator: - Bi-Xenon is standard - PDLS : €702 - PDLS and black headlights: €1171 - PDLS , black headlights and LED: €2832 The additional cost for LED looks like around €1650, but can only be ordered with PDLS and the black headlight design.

POST 7Original post

Didn't previous versions of the GT3 have a lightweight headlight option? (Or was that the GT3 RS only?) I would assume that the LED light kit weighs less than the bi-xenon, but I might be wrong.

POST 8Original post

Yes it did but that option consisted of old style halogen lamps not LED's.

POST 9Original post

Ahh profit, how could I forget the most IMPORTANT thing about these cars! This explains why I'll be a worker bee the rest of my life. :hilarious:
