Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

A good friend is thinking about moving from the 930 series to a 997S; 07 model with about 50K. Nice condition, 2 owners, no over revs on the PPI or track use. What did show up was some dampness around the IMS flange--no drips, just a bit of seepage. No reports of a cam deviation test. Questions: Anything to look for on this particular model? Weak points? Insist on a cam deviation test? Are these models affect less by IMS failures than the 987 platform? This car would see extensive DE use if purchased. Thanks for any help.

POST 2Original post

997.1's (2005-2008) can be affected by IMS. Seems to happen more in 2005's. If you friend is going to use this as a track car, he could buy a 996 GT3 for the same money and not worry about IMS and have a much better track car.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
