Hi Chaps, Taking the 996 (1998) to a bodyshop tomorrow to get both front wheel arches looked at...somehow they've managed to develop a very slight rust issue towards the base (near door side - possibly because the car is 12 years old! Might get them to do the PU at the same time which could do with a coat of paint. Car is silver (if that matters)...so any idea how much would a sensible price be for such a job (both arches and front PU)? Bodyshop is in the midlands. Cheers

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Six hundred and fifty pound plus vat But this is a wild guess Prize for the nearest?
How long is a piece of string? Without knowing how bad the rust is, and the amount of preparation, it's difficult to say. I pay £250 for a front PU respray if I take it off myself, so my guess would be anything between £400 and £600.
Virtual pint for the nearest ! Rust is only superficial by the looks of it.
I got mine done along with other work last summer. I got a pretty good deal as I recall, all four wheel arches for less than £500 as I remember. I doubt however that it will offer long term pretection from a recurrence, given the constant bombardment they take from all manner of substances thrown up by the wheels. The eventual bill came in at over £1100, but included fixing the door strap repairing stone chipping and the stripping back / respraying of the scuttle.
Came back at £250+VAT for PU and £160+VAT for each wheel arch. No guarantee (covering any time frame) that the rust won't come back. Think I might as well go to a cheaper outfit in that case as I was hoping there would be some kind of guarantee, I might drive it away from the workshop and it could rust next week and I'd have no come back!
I wonder if this 'No Guarantee' thing is peculiar to Porsche/cars with a Galvanised shell, Can any tecchie type person, tell us if once the Galvanising has been penetrated by rust is the only 'guarantee' to re-galvanise the whole shell again? On my 964 I had the 'A' pillar rust cleaned up and sprayed by a very very good bodyshop but still had to sign a 'No Guarantee' disclaimer on pick up Exeter OPC does front or read PU re-sprays for £400+ vat, so I'm guessing a PU and wheel arch will be around £575 + vat :?: :?:
Remember, " The bitterness of poor quality reamins long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" :?:
