Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Before I bought my first aircooled 911 I was able to find a few good buyers guides that covered the different problems areas of the cars by year. Is there anything similar out there for the 996/997 cars? TIA

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found a really good thread on Rennlist. Also, I see I can pre-order a 101 for the 996/997, so that's good. Im sure I'll need one of those if I buy one of these cars. Also spent the $5 for the .pdf of the Excellence Buyer's Guide. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

POST 3Original post

IMHO, the 996/997 is a great car. The issue is that the owner profile is entirely different that when you got into air cooled cars. It has been my experience that most folks selling really don't know squat about their cars except what they did for IMS/RMS/AOS. Candidly, they are "trophy" cars. This shifts the burden to you as the buyer to know what to look for and which questions to ask. I wish I knew of a resource for you. Just read, read, and read some more.
