Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My sister needs a car and I convinced her to get a Boxster. Can anyone tell me if she can afford one? She can spend up to $20,000 and needs the car to be a tip.

POST 2Original post

Leon: I think she is in the range of a 97 or 98 http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/r...irst_record=26 Peter

POST 3Original post

By the way, Leon: Can you send me an E-mail, got a couple of questions for you. Email me at [email removed] Peter Liao

POST 4Original post

i wouldn't buy a 97 boxster or even a 98. I have heard there are a lot of quality and fit and finish issues with the early models. I'd stick with a 99 and later model but those will be more like 25K. Bob

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info Bob. '99 or later it is!

POST 6Original post

BTW, I'd do at search at carmax.com. I know they sell boxsters and at least you will get some type of protection by buying from a chain like them. Bob

POST 7Original post

just surf ebay. I bought a 99 with 32k miles on it for my girlfriend three months ago for 20500 shipped. hope this helps. btw: for that price don't expect to get too many options.

POST 8Original post

she has $20k to spend period, or she has $20k to spend on the car and another bank account to cover repairs? as exciting as it can be, its NEVER a good idea to stretch yourself too thin on the actual purchase just to find a few months down the road that your used "exotic" needs some pricey repairs (we all know p-car parts aren't cheap). i'm sure you and your sister already knew that...just a friendly reminder.

POST 9Original post

I had a 99' on a lease and beat the **** out of it with no problems to speak of. I gave it back because the buyout was rediculous and bought another 99 this year. Outside of the keyless entry not working and a few squeaks and rattles, she runs great. The 2.5's are much more reliable than the 2.7's.
