So I'm nearly 2 years into 996 ownership and enjoy every minute driving it. I'm happy to do lots of work on it myself and have a great indy (GCR Central) to do the bits I'm not comfortable doing. Everyone who works on the car (GCR & Centre Gravity) say its a really nice and a good useable example. Deep down I'd love an air cooled and could afford one, but its not fair on the family to commit that much of our money into another toy. However, I really like the look of the 70's restomod cars, particularly Kris Clewell's '72 and Magnus Walkers Outlaw. So, I'm currently thinking of reverse-able mods to emulate such cars without going all 'barry boys'. List of mods:- Momo 07 Oz or group4 fuchs - colour TBC perhaps matching engine lid. Ditch PCM for basic radio (dab with mp3 input) Controversial - mexico blue engine lid wrap Rear wiper delete. Car is slate grey. Perhaps not to everyones taste but thoughts and comments appreciated.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Slate grey 996.1? I was just thinking about that combo last night? Any photos? With the restomod I think you need to go all out or none. Wheels for sure.
Its a 2003 car. This is also the inspiration...
I love the idea. I may be being simplistic, but for me it needs a ducktail, Fuchs, to be lowered and have side graphics. I'd colour code the ducktail, wheels and graphics. After that you could go nuts on the details!
I'd go with som Fifteen52 outlaw wheels and go for more of a homage to the early models rather than fit Fuchs and try and recreate an early look....so many options out there though.
You might find some inspiration from this thread. It's not a DIY job though. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=132101&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=996+backdate
PW - you could go the CSR route, which cosmetically are Fuchs, ducktail, graphics and pasha interior. Or an Italian Porsche fanatic, Ludic has done an impressive restomod.
If your interested I have a set of ruger classic fuch 19inch replice for sale for a narrow body 996? and i work in Lutterworth.. PM me if interested.
Gee, Thanks - I prefer 18s TBH. In my experience (on caterhams anyway) going bigger and lower profile has a detrimental affect on handling. 13's with 60 profile tyres are the sweet spot on sevens! Regards Ian
I like the 997T Magnus helped design/create. It's a bit of a marmite car, but I like it.
It would never occur to me that that is a retro car though- it's striking, it has design cues from Porsche history but is that enough to call it retro? Maybe.
Gee - sent you a PM about meeting up. Apologies didnt spot your PM till yesterday!! Ian
