There is a great technical article regarding Porsche Airbag systems in the current issue of Excellence . In includes history and model specific changes. One interesting note is that the 987/997 models have the seat belt systems tied to the airbag system and it will automatically retract to a certain point keeping the occupant close the seat to help keep forward acceleration of the occupant to a minimum. It is noted as well (and I'm sure many of you already know this) that the 1987 951 (944 Turbo) was the first vehicle to have dual front airbags and that Porsche was the first to offer as standard equipment across all models, dual front airbags from 1990 on.
