Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My car is a 2008 Cayman . Can someone confirm the size of the six bolts that hold the half driveshaft? The lowering springs article on this forum calls them 8mm hex bolts. Mine dont have the hex pattern and are bigger than 8mm. Mine are a 12 pointed pattern more like a spline or maybe a double hex or triple square. They also appear to need a 9mm or maybe 10mm bit. Can anyone confirm the type drive needed and the size so I know what tool I need to buy? Thanks.

POST 4Original post

Hey extanker, Thanks for that info. I appreciate you taking the time to look into this - especially in the rain. Actually, right about now I wouldn't mind rain - I've got about 1/4 mile visibility right now in blowing snow. So much for driving the Cayman today. Anyway, thanks again.

POST 5Original post

This thread didnt get much interest - probably because most cars seem to have the 8mm hex bolts that the service manual indicates, however, just in case anyone else out there doesnt have the hex pattern, the bolt on my car and probably some others is a 12mm triple square. It requires a 12mm male triple square socket. Thanks anyway to those that tried to help.

Thanks Maddog - now we'll know if we come across one like yours. To be clear, most others, like mine, have socket head bolts with an 8 mm internal hex. (So people won't assume external hex).
