POST 1Original post

Well, I did it...after 7 years of Cayman ownership I've moved to a 911. Picked it up last week. What a car! So why would I trade my perfect car, the Cayman S ? I feel like I just dumped my best friend. The car was great, handled like a dream, had all the features I liked and looked fantastic. But I did. Really, I went to the dealership just to take my friend over to pick up his car from service. And there she was...in the showroom floor waiting for me to walk by. She caught my eye and I was hooked. 2007 S with 2,500 miles. 6 sp manual, adaptive sport seats, PASM , aero kit, all the right stuff. Now I had been thinking about a 911 for awhile and had been looking every month for what's out there but just didn't see the right car. So it wasn't totally a surprise...heck most people I know won't even realize I got a new car...they will think I just added a wing on the Cayman But what a different car! I really liked the Cayman with Sport mode, it's plenty fast and handles like a dream. But the character of the 911 is completly different. One really has to drive this beast, there is so much torque available. I'm still amazed how different the two cars are. Anyone else feel the same between the two cars? Anyway, I'm glad there is a 911 group here on this site! Planet 9 has been such an outstanding resource learning about our cars and comparing notes with other owners. Look forward to continuing my association here.

You traitor! ... I'm tellin <jk> She's a beauty that's for sure and such low miles.

POST 3Original post

They are like rockets! Traded my CS in for a 2008 997.1tt about a month ago. It really really pulls hard! If you want more power look at an ECU flash, it adds about 80hp and up to 115hp with new exhaust . Yours looks great, enjoy! Chris

POST 4Original post

Congrats, awesome looking car, really like the aero kit and black wheels. Sounds like you got a great deal. Enjoy!

POST 6Original post

Wow, a 2007 Porsche with 2500 miles is a fairly remarkable story. Slightly over 400 miles a year means the car was simply not driven at all. Congratulations and I hope you got the back story on your new car (for that is what it is)!

POST 8Original post

Looks great, but the title is a bit confusing. If that's what you believe, then it seems like you should have kept the Cayman. Either way, you're comparing a 997.1 to a Cayman. The 991 drives very different (I like it much more). Anyway, congrats on the awesome find, and great car!

POST 9Original post

Ha, sorry about the confusion in the title. Didn't mean to imply that...it was just the easiest way I knew how to make an arrow...you know, Cayman to 911 transition. But if I had thought about the math meaning I would not have used that...and I'm an engineer even Thanks for the comments all. The back story on the car was that it was in a guys collection in Texas and he was reducing the lot. He sold 3 of his cars to this dealer, a GT3RS, a Turbo and my car. I first saw the car the day after it came in but it took us a few weeks us to arrive on the price I did some research and came up with my best price and after a few rounds and walking out once, he called me up and said "come down and pick up your car". Already put 500 miles on her I will be driving this one.

POST 10Original post

Love the Yellow/Black combo. Would look even better with clear side markers ;-)

POST 12Original post

I, too, went from a Cayman to a Carrera . Totally different cars. My 997.1 S has sport chrono and sport exhaust . It is a beast. Miss the Cayman, but I love my 911. Congrats to you - you got a real beauty.

POST 13Original post

I don't think I've ever read a post about regrets moving from a Cayman to a 911. Congrats on your yellow 997.

POST 14Original post

Just today i traded a 987.1 Boxster S for a 997.2 C2S ( PDK ). WOW. I'm sorry, but this was a massive step up in my opinion. It may not handle the twisties as well but I live in Florida where most roads are straight. I could not be happier!

POST 15Original post

The 911 is more than adequate on any road here in the US, be it straight or twisty. While the 981 may offer better balance on paper, in the real world, the 911 loses nothing to the 981. Perhaps on a track and with a very skilled driver there might be a slight difference in handling but for the vast majority of Porsche drivers in this country and probably in the world, the balance will never make a difference. While the 981 and previous 987 are great cars, the 911 remains an icon and offers superlative performance, comfort and balance.

POST 16Original post

Congrats on your new ride! That yellow is hot!

POST 17Original post

Thanks for the nice comments. I totally agree that the 911 is a big step from the Cayman. Its interesting after driving the Cayman for 7 years how alike they are, but different in some major ways. I'd rate construction quality the same, interior is slightly better in the 911 and of course the 911 body style is classic. But I think the Cayman is an awesome design as well. Spent the day washing and waxing. The aero kit front is a challenge to keep from hitting on things...already have had to touch it up. Must be careful

POST 18Original post

You have to be careful with the aerokit, the front is really low, after awhile, you'll just keep shaving off the front until it doesn't scratch anymore.

POST 19Original post

I owned a Cayman S for 18 months before moving over to my 911, which I've now also had for around 18 months. I felt the same way as you about the reliability, handling and general character of the car - it was a great vehicle that I was sad to see go. As I traded it in and walked away at the dealership I felt genuinely "wrong" that I was turning my back on it. The first thing I noticed about the 911 was the smoothness of the ride and the power available. The Cayman S had 18 inch wheels, the Carrera S 19 and yet the ride on the 911 was far smoother than the Cayman. The 911 gets to 100 mph far quicker as well, the Cayman wasn't a slouch but the power gap between 290 bhp and 385 was all too obvious from off the line. The model I bought is actually very similar to yours, 09 model in back with an aerokit etc. Congrats on your upgrade I'm sure you will enjoy it.

POST 20Original post

Wow, I guess I am not alone! I sold my '08 Cayman S a couple of years ago and just picked up a '11 911 S and am loving every minute of it! Pulls really hard and I can't wait to get to the track in the spring. --Chris

POST 21Original post

I see Newport Porsche got you hooked as well,. Congrats!!!!

POST 22Original post

I have always been a fan of the GT3 "look" on a Carrera S. You get the daily drivability of a 911...with plenty of track capability...and the looks of a GT3 without the downside. Very nice car. Yank My License Yellow looks good.

POST 23Original post

Giantkiller, did you just get that R from Newport? They had this sweep R in the showroom that looked really nice when I was in there...looks a lot like yours... Dave, I think these cars look really good in Speed Yellow...not such a fan of the new yellow on the latest model so that influenced me getting this one. I love the aero look but but the low front is becoming hard to live with I do have some speed yellow spray paint and hate to say it, I had to do some touchup on that lower lip already (I am driving this one). If anyone knows if I can un-aero that front somehow, I might be interested in trying something!

POST 24Original post

Got mine in the Summer of 2011, so it couldn't be mine. Funny that your car is at the exact same spot as in my pic.

POST 26Original post

Beautiful ride! I read this thread with great interest because I am in the middle of a deal where I will be trading in my '08 Cayman S Sport (orange) for a brand new 2013 991 (white with Sport Design body kit and black wheels). I've owned three Cayman S cars and love the light, quick feeling of the car, but one run through the gears in the new 991 was all it took. Will keep everyone informed if deal goes through.
