I finally got my B & M and had time to install it. It wasn't too hard, I marked the cables( as Doug suggested) and adusted the **** height ( Bob H. ). It feels fantastic. I have one question though, on my stock shifter there was a square/rectangle piece of plastic at the end of the pivot ball. There was not one in the B & M kit and no mention of it in the instructions. Is the B &M pivot ball supposed to have this plastic piece attached? As I said it feels great w/out it, but I'm not sure if I did it right. Here's how it looks: B &M compared w/stock: Installed:

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You don't need it, the B&M pivot ball O.D. is the same as the square factory piece. I' not sure why they do it this way, it may account for the increased effort going into reverse IMO. You'll like the B&M, it softens/loosens up nicely after a few miles.
As DJ said, that part from the oem shift is not used with the B&M.
Phew - Now I can't wait to REALLY drive her w/out this damn cast on.
