Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I was pretty much settled on a B&M when I hear about the IMEC shifter. Apparently it's from Japan. I got a number for a guy who sells them and he described it as "very similar to the B&M but not as notchy". I've always felt that when it comes to the "feel" of things (i.e. switches and things), the Japanese really have things nailed down. It's this reason that I am curious about this shifter. I like the feel of the B&M but felt like it could have a little of it's "edge" taken off of it and it would be perfect. Anybody heard of this IMEC shifter, have one, seen one, pics, etc.? TIA

Here's a pic. Comments welcome. <a href="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Img_0388.JPG" target="_blank">http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Img_0388.JPG</a>

My B&M is not at all notchy. Particularly now that it's broken in. That piece looks pretty nice, however.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there anything about this shifter that looks significantly different than the B&M? If so what effect do you think it would have? I noticed the rubber "bushings" on the front and back. Would that possibly make it have a more "damped" feel?

Lance, I drove Wilber's monster 996TT with the IMEC shifter on the track and it feels very, very nice. Every time you put it into gear, it sorta 'clicks' into place like a Ferrari. If I could adapt it to work with my M5, I would, rather than paying $1000 for the Schnitzer one. I will probably end up putting it in my incoming GT3 depending on how the stock shifter is. I think the price is competitive and certainly worth a try.

Lance, BTW, had I known you live in the Hamptons, I could have brought a shifter over to you this weekend, as I will be in NYC Saturday to Tuesday. However, I'm leaving for Boston in about an hour...

Darn....timing is everything! Sounds like a nice shifter. Decisions....
