I am currently an Audi A4 driver and love the car, but I am thinking about a Porsche. I ski, so AWD would be nice, but maybe a Cayman S would be enough for me? No sure. My budget would be under $40K, so obviously used is the only option. Can someone tell me my options and approximate years that may have AWD. No interest in an SUV, that is for sure. Thanks for any help.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay, I did some research. Seems the 911s4 or 4 are my only options. I only saw 2003's or 2007's for sale give or take. These are big money cars to say the least. Wonder if the Cayman would be good enough? I am used to AWD which is as good as it gets. My A4USP sits pretty low and will plow snow with its bumper, so I am sure the 911s4 will do the same. Maybe that is the call, but I don't know if I can fit skis in the car somewhere? I don't like racks that much, but maybe.
Sounds like you answered your own question. If you want AWD, your only options in a Porsche are the Carrera and Panamera 4 models, and the Cayenne. A Cayman or Boxster will not be "good enough" if you're looking for AWD. And no, you won't be able to fit skis in a 911 unless they're short. Even then, you probably won't want to.
If you want to plow snow with your bumper, a Porsche is not for you. My wife has an A5 and you can't beat the Quattro for winter handling. 2007 Cayman S, MT, Atlas Grey/Terracotta
A cayman with snow tires will be just as good as the A4 with summer or all seasons. Most people don't realize how much of a difference tires make and assume rwd doesn't work in bad weather.
Your AWD options are : All 911 C4 and C4S variants All Panamera 4, 4S and Turbo variants All Cayenne models All 911 Turbo's since at least the 993 Turbo Getting in to a 911 996 C4 or C4S for under 40K should be easy, hell you should be able to find an older 996 Turbo for 40K. I would not recommend a car with low clearances for snow duty.
