POST 1Original post

Man, this is driving me crazy. Can't wait till I can not change my order. Basically I'm looking at possibly adding the option: 'Rear center console painted exterior color'. I saw it on a 911, and it looked and felt awesome. The painted part felt more sturdy than the black plastic. Oh, the color is Arctic Silver/Black Interior. Anyone have a thought/feedback? I know it's a matter of personal taste, but something said may help. Thanks A: B:

Only thing I can say is I feel your pain, it was a great relief once I got cut off! Then after that you will discover a new kind of pain. Russ

POST 4Original post

amro, The biggest problem with this car and those kind options is that IT LOOKS SO DARN GOOD WITH EVERYTHING. I think that console looks fantastic both ways, I am a lot of help/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/confused_smile.gif Russ

POST 5Original post

This option was not available for order in the PCNA computers last time I checked, you can, however, have it done by Bumperplugs a site sponsor.

POST 6Original post

I believe it is available now as it was accepted on my order. Actually, I changed it again later, taking it off and adding some other options I also wanted. Bumperplugs is less expensive, but does anyone know how their paint job compares to the Porsche option as far as durability?

POST 7Original post

If you can get it from the factory I would say go for it. I have seen it on a few Arctic/Black cars and it always looks fantastic. Bumperplugs items have great quality and are nicely priced, but you still have to take the console out and exchange it.......great solution if you can't get it from the factory, but I would go factory if I could.

POST 8Original post

The painted console looks so good I wish I hadn't seen it. I may have to call my dealer again.

POST 9Original post

When I ordered my cayman I would like to have the painted console too. I saw it in Frankfurt and it looked really great. But my dealer told me I maybe would regret it very soon because it will be scratched easily /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/confused_smile.gif.I don't think it's a painted console you see on picture B. My opinion it's the extended trim package with aluminium look paint finish/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/lightbulb.gif

POST 10Original post

Ramiel, That is the painted console in picture B as shown in the car configurator on the Porsche site.

POST 11Original post

It seem to me that it would be subject to easy abuse and perhaps get sscratched up easily. If I had a choice it would b leather. Russ

POST 12Original post

I think it looks fantastic.. It brings some color and a 'sporty' look to the interior. I say go for it.

POST 13Original post

2 of my prior Porsches had this option and they never scratched.

POST 14Original post

Did you have a dog at the time? Woof woof, Powder

POST 15Original post

I think there's a difference between a console in exterior color and the aluminium lookpainted console. Ken if the console in your prior porsches were in exterior color and they didn't scratch, I regret it very much that I didn't order that option. Like I said, it looks great/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/confused_smile.gif

POST 16Original post

The painted console is exactly that, a standard plastic unit painted in bodycolour. It does scratch quite easily, especially around the seat belt buckle area. Not sure on parts prices for the 987/Cayman, but on the 986 models the standard unit could be purchased form the parts department for about $70 , and painted yourself (including multiple coats of clear lacquer) for under $100 all told. This is considerably cheaper than the factory option and you still have the original console too

POST 17Original post

Neither of my painted consoles scratched, but I did not own a dog and I did not ram the seat belt buckle into the paint either. If they are that easy to paint you could always repaint one that had any damage. The center console in aluminum-look or in artic silver look pretty similar, both are the same price I think. I think this looks best with contrasting colors, for example I wouldn't do it with midnight blue metallic or black with a black interior.

POST 18Original post

Great feedback guys. Thanks. A couple of things I noticed about it. From the factory, there is a small patch of leather right under the handbrake. Guess your nails could scratch it up quite a bit. The other thing was that the buckle receptacles had a small patch of material tacked to it to prevent any rub against the console. I kind of liked the look because it broke up the black just a bit. We'll see. I'll probably get it.
