Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Help...looking at 996's differnce between carerra and targa...problems,differences,driving etc...thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

I recently went through the buying decision. I looked at Turbos, considered a GT3, coupe and the Targa (wasn't really interested in a Cab). I liked all of them, but I ended up choosing a Targa. Though some have said it's just a big "sunroof" they're really quite mistaken. The Targa offers an open air experience approaching the Cab, but has body rigidity much closer to the Coupe. The glass roof is really wonderful, even when closed. A couple of weeks ago I drove through a storm, and you've never experienced a lightning storm until you've done it with a glass roof overhead! I also enjoy the ability to go from roof open to roof closed on the fly when getting off and on the highway. Another thing I like over the Cab--in every Cab I've driven, the sun comes over the top of the windshield header, over the top of my sunglasses, and into my eyes a surprising amount of the time. With the Targa, the header is just wide enough that this doesn't happen. Compared to the Coupe, the Targa is heavier, and probably more prone to squeaks--I wish Porsche hadn't bothered with the opening hatchback--probably would have been tighter without it.

What kind of discounting have you seen with the Targa? Seems the dealers in the midwest are discounting more than the C2's thanks

POST 5Original post

My dealer has a hard time moving them. People here opt for the convertible for just a little more moula. I have never been quoted on a Targa, but my quess is 7k to 10k.

You should be able to get a better discount on a Targa than a coupe. Most people that want open air go for the Cab, and really aren't use to the Targa concept, which is totally different than the old style Targa. You should be able to drive a hard bargain on a Targa (although the same might be said of any 996 right now). Of course there are fewer Targas out there, so you might have to be less picky on colors and options.

Big long thread about this a few weeks ago, full of Targa-haters and, well, all kinds of haters as I recall. Check it out. Personally, I think Targa's are very cool, even if they are little heavier. Happy shopping! -DT '03 C2
