If you can afford it and enjoy driving it, just hold on for a few years.

bevsy said: Hi guys, I have been hankering for a gt3 rs for a few years now and I finally bought one a month ago! It’s a 2016 991.1 in silver and has only covered 4k miles and is immaculate! I have it parked in garage waiting for nice weather to enjoy it! It’s the biggest purchase I have ever made bar my house, I now am thinking have I done the right thing with the prices dropping ?? someone make me feel better ?? There is no way you'd have entered into it thinking prices will go up?.... there is only one direction and that is down....but you must have realised that surely. Its not a Sports Classic or anything rare. You have only lost money if you sell it, so enjoy it to the max and don't stress on it. A drive in it will make you feel better than moping around the house about it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Only messing really of course I didn’t expect to make money on it and can afford to keep hold of it, just does put thoughts in head at where it will stop with all the threads you read.

POST 4Original post

It’s a car, drive it, enjoy it. Stop over thinking it. One of mine needs discs and pads and four new tyres all round, I have enjoyed every second in that car, it’s only money. You are a long time dead.

POST 6Original post

The way I’d look at it, is between us two, one of us has a gt3rs in their garage. I think you’re winning

POST 9Original post

Stunning weather at the moment, go drive it. You could literally be dead tomorrow and then now pissed off would you be that you didn’t drive it..

POST 10Original post

That’s one way to brag about being an RS owner.

POST 11Original post

I think you always regret buying a car following the purchase, most of the excitements in the search.

POST 12Original post

I have one also. No regrets as I tend to keep them anyway...I have a 997RS and 991RS also. If you paid list price you should be OK for a while. I think the exposure is for those who paid major premiums.

POST 13Original post

Drive it. All your worries and concerns will then all go away plus it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, same as a house really. I'd worry about depreciation if/when you come to sell it.

POST 15Original post

You wont lose any money at all if you do not sell it. Enjoy the wonderful experience.

POST 16Original post

You could mitigate depreciation costs with an LPG conversion and by switching to windpower tyres.

Edible Roadkill said: I think you always regret buying a car following the purchase, most of the excitements in the search. Not for me - the search was a bit stressful (low supply, rising prices, getting gazumped) and the ownership and driving has been monumentally f king great.

POST 18Original post

The worse case scenario is it becomes worthless and you have lost £150k. Don't worry about it FFS

POST 19Original post

Cannot believe this man has a 991.1 GT3 RS that's been sat in the garage and not driven since he bought it. Where abouts are you pal? I'll come around and drive it for you.

POST 20Original post

Too right- drive it, wash it and drive it again.

POST 21Original post

He has spent 150k [ish] on a car. Now he is worried about it getting damaged or dirty or adding unnecessary or too much mileage etc etc etc. I have seen this a lot with aspirational cars like this. People get all caught up in the idea of buying one, of owning one. But they fail to really understand the process of actually using or abusing it. It is one thing buying an expensive car. It is another risking it out and about in traffic with other road users. We can all will this guy to 'man up' but he really needs to wrap his head around it all by himself. I'm not sure how some people on the internet persuade him to do this. Maybe he needs to plan some baby steps. Sit down and consider where you will go and when etc. Then when the day and time comes around you need to go. Or maybe he needs to plan some meet ups. Either just going round to a mates to show off or some form of organised meet up with other cars and owners. OP What will get you in the car and out of the garage?

POST 22Original post

I get the post above, as I am protective re damage from other road users. Leave in a car park and come back to a dent and chipped paint where someone has opened a door on it...... Re the ops opening post, I bought a 991.2 manual at the market peak and don't really care re the value loss, as intend to keep it as long as I can

POST 23Original post

Life is extremely short. You've been lucky enough to buy a car 99.9999% of car enthusiasts will never own. Go and drive it.

To be fair i am not afraid to get it dirty or put miles on just haven't had the time off work on a nice day always been bouncing with rain in west wales! Was only a funny five mins to be fair and like others have said life is short and has always been a car of dreams so am going to enjoy it, hopefully meet some of you guys at some meets !

I hope it's not wearing Cup2 tyres. I'd be getting some sensible tyres for it and trying to use it every day. We all here would like to see some pics of it covered in grime and parked somewhere random, but outside and in the pouring rain. Do you accept the challenge?

Done 25 k in mine , daily driver , Le Mans trips , Track days , Hill climbs . Still looks spot on and runs like a dream , in fact better with miles on it .. Lot of people bought for , investment ?bar room banter but I think they are fun cars to own and drive . Always used Cup 2 right through the winter ( 964 RS / 996 GT3 and .2 RS ) over about 20 years , although had some police warning in Switzerland once . Never had an issue just drive to the conditions .

My Touring is 21k, off on 3.5k mile trip round France Spain and Portugal, then another trip to France in November be 26k or so. Runs better than ever as your RS P, used all year round (winter tyres in the winter if really cold. CGT on axle stands for next 12 months, 200 miles of 60k.

POST 33Original post

I've had buyer's remorse before so know what you mean. Strangely enough I didn't have any of those feelings when I got my GT3 2 years ago. Guilt, maybe as like you it's the biggest car purchase i've ever made, but remorse not so much. Values have held for a while, but they will go down. Look at it this way.... I could have bought a diesel Mercedes estate and be suffering cataclysmic depreciation (as I have done a few times before). Now I drive a GT3, sit in my dream car and it depreciates less than a diesel Mercedes. Please get out and drive the thing. Get track insurance and use it. You'll be smiling too much to care then.

POST 34Original post

In my experience when you start to feel remorse like that and then try to spend time convincing yourself it wasn’t a waste of money, well those cars don’t stick around for long. Drive it and see how you feel in spring/summer as the market is slow now anyway.

Edited by bevsy on Tuesday 10th October 22:56 Congrats on the car, it's epic - it's only got 4k miles on it, I fear more for whowever owned it before you not enjoying it enough! Get out there and use it. My Turbo S had 49k on it when I bought it which although low for the age in car terms is pretty high in Porsche terms. Once the weather is better take it out to car meets. I've been to a few events at Bicester Heritage and some local Porsche meets, met new people just through having the car and it's great!

I was watching a video of a 911 Dakar and thought that is amazing, it looks so much fun! Then i caught myself on and realised, I have one of those in the garage what the hell am i doing, get out there and drive it! And it's exactly what you should do
