Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The following quote was included in the Porsche press release regarding the new C4S Cab: "The soft top of the Carrera 4S Cabriolet is made from high-quality fabric and features the revolutionary zig-zag folding. What's more, it can be opened and closed at the touch of a button while driving. At speeds of up to 50 km/h, the driver can operate the convertible top simply by pushing a button. It takes a mere 20 seconds or so for the roof to unlock and fold back neatly beneath a protective cover." Am I reading this right? You can now open/close the cabriolet top while driving? I've got a 2000 C4 Cab that requires that the emergency break is on prior to opening/closing... Is this true

POST 2Original post

The 02/03s are also the same as yours.

POST 3Original post

I havent heard anything like this yet but i know of a german company who made a conversion for the Boxster top, which you could open and close while driving up to 10 miles per hour. Makes me wonder about the 997 cab.... 2001 C4 cab

POST 4Original post

I amy be wrong, but I think that feature is not made available to USA buyers because of our litigious nature...

Yeah, i think techart has an aftermarket component you can install (upwards of $700 i think) that will allow 1-touch up/down while in motion, though only beloew 25mph. There are several threads on here, search for 'top down while moving.' Several guys have installed it and love it. On the lower budget end of things, the relay for the cabrio top (which supposedly costs ~$30, in case you screw up) can be 'altered' by removing the pin that feeds back the speedo reading (pin 18). You still need the hand brake on, but you only need to pull it up one click (which doesn't engage it), and its a nice fail safe, since removing the pin allows you to raise/lower the top at ANY speed. There is a website for the hack: http://www.iq.dynip.com/~gary/hacks/cabrio/cabrio.html then if you want 1-touch up/down, buy the sharkworks switch ($175). If we ever get some decent weekend weather in NYC I'll try it and let you know.

POST 6Original post

Actually, '03 cabs can retract/raise tops up to 30 mph.

POST 7Original post

Can't do it in '02. You have to modify it. European Cabs can even open the top remotely with the key fob. Again not available in US because of litigious nature, but I found someone in L.A. that can modify your key to open the top with the trunk button. --Leon

POST 8Original post

I just got an '03 cab. The other day I was crawling along in highway traffic and I opened the top. I did not have the emergency brake on and I was definitely moving.
