Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I have always wanted an Arctic Silver/Black C2, but in scoping out cars at dealers, I have come across a Midnight Blue/Black Coupe with the options that I want (esp. M030 and Sports Seats). Part of the reason I wanted the AS was for ease of keeping it clean. I know the MB will be harder to maintain, but I think it is a great looking car. A MB Targa was parked in my street a few days ago and I spent a bit of time checking it out. Any thoughts? MB with M030 and Sports Seats or AS without (both have Bose, PSM, 18" wheels). Comments on how they look or the difficulties of maintenance are welcome. I live in an apartment with no parking, so washing will be a rare event. Thanks

I own both a Lapis Blue metallic (996TT, garage queen) and a Midnight Blue metallic (RSA track car). (Actually, I must have a thing for blue, as my daily driver is dark metallic (Santorin) blue 2002 Audi S4). Both look fantastic when clean, however as a dark colored car, they are much more prone to spider webbing and fine clear coat swirls/scratches than an arctic silver or seal grey. However, I believe they are both a bit easier than black to care for. Hand washing is pretty much a definite to minimize these colors. From a resale value perspective, they say that blue cars have a lower value than silver or red, if that matters. With proper car and feeding, my daily driver looks quite good, it's just a matter of spending the time when waxing and polishing. Personally, I would prefer driving a car with swirls that I love rather than a color that doesn't show dirt/swirls as much that I don't really like. Either way, you're getting a Porsche, so congratulations.

I think that both colors are beautiful but the Silver will defintiely be easier to maintain. IMHO, Midnight Blue is a great color but I feel it is too similar to Lapis blue to be paying an extra $3K (not sure of the exact figure but I know its a special order paint) for it.

Waz, Both are C2 coupes. The Midnight Blue is a standard metallic in 03, so $825 extra, same as Arctic Silver. After seeing this feedback, what are a couple of other low maintenance colors? Seal Gray? Slate Gray? Basalt Black? The problem for me is that car will be kept in NYC, so I will not be washing it - it will get the occasional rainstorm plus whatever washing services are around (I haven't looked into that yet).

I had a dark blue Polar Silver 77 911S; a Polar Silver 94 Speedster; a dark blue 98 993S; and currently an 02 AS Cab. (I would have order the PS in 02, but not for what they were asking. Anyway, one stint with a dark blue car brought me right back to Silver. Silver shows the lines, the shape and the detail better and is in fact easier to clean. Silver is also a neutral color so my wife (IndyCindy) can wear any color clothes she wants when she's in the car (important consideration if you're married) So comparably equipped it's AS for me. I got the dark blue 98 'cause it was a widebody, had a full aerokit and was lowered to euro M030 specs, tinted glass, etc. Great car o/t the color. Silver shows the car better IMHO AND if you have an internet connection (BIG file) and want to see a collection of over 700 silver porsches of all kinds, here's a link http://www.fototime.com/inv/4DB394991613B85

Go with AS if it's going to be parked outside and if you don't plan on washing it often. Seal Grey is also Low maintainance. I have Black but my car is garage kept and covered in the winter!
