Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Do they look identical to the standard tips except they are chromed?

http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/tequipment/caymans/sport/ The chrome tailpipes are round. I think the general group feeling is that the standard tailpipes are highly polished stainless steal which dull over time. AFAIK there's no option to have the standard tailpipes in chrome. I have my 'potential' Cayman S set up in the Porsche Car Configurator. One of the options available under the performance catagory was XLA - Chrome Exhaust Pipe at $340 (described as 'dual exhaust pipe in chrome-plated stainless steel'). However, sometime in the last few days this option has disappeared from the options list as well as my saved configuration. It was also listed in the Order Guide(s) which were posted on the website and the copy I got from my Dealer. I have just found it listed in 12.2 of the Product InformationGuide which was also posted on the website but with an availability date of 03/06. So, it looks like they are the round ones in the picture. I previously thought that there were two optional versions, but that appears to be incorrect.

POST 6Original post

I tried to order this option on my Cayman and the dealership told me it wasn't yet available in the US. That was early December. I asked again yesterday and was told the same thing. But then I see XLA listed in the Cayman brochure, on the website, etc. and wonder what the deal is. Can anyone confirm that they've been able to order a Cayman with this option in the US? Thanks!

POST 7Original post

I'm slated for an early Feb. build and was told it was not availble until March build... you'll be able to buy them from your dealer as techquipment after delivery... if they're like my turbo, the tips just bolt right on. Brad

POST 8Original post

I'm now thinking I like the rectangular shaped one better than the round one, even though I had tried to order it. The standard one is not highly polished, but could be. I now plan to polish the standard one when I get the car.

POST 10Original post

that last pic looks very sharp and sporty... I like it a lot.

POST 11Original post

Yep that last pic does look good, but i always saw the trapezoidal/rectangular one as a defing feature of the Cayman - whereas that one could be just a Boxster S

POST 12Original post

Boy, the chrome pipes look great. I can tell you all that the stainless will look terrible within 6 months. I have a 911 I'm selling and that's how long it took to turn a yellowish brown ugly. I will go for aftermarket exhaust whem mine comes in in March.

POST 13Original post

I've had a few stainless exhausts in the past and never had too much of a problem making them look new most of the time. Even chrome exhaust tips can discolor if you let crap on them long enough. I think the keyto keeping them nice is to clean them with each car wash. I have a bottle of Mothers chrome & stainless cleaner/polish that seems to work wonders in keeping them clean and bright.

POST 14Original post

This was talked about a number of times - my last understanding was that when RussK visited his dealer was told that the chrome option was infact the standard tip with chrome - I plan to chrome or polish my tip, but I find it strange that the dealers don't know exactly what an option does /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/sad_smile.gif I hope that someone will be able to put this issue to bed once and for all.
