Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening New here, but have been lurking for a while. Great forum and a great read I have a 2003 996 in Basalt with black leather. My 2nd Porker and i love it. Problem started today. The drivers window is making a terrible scraping/squealing noise when i lower it. Its there when its being raised but definitely worse on lowering. Sounds like the glass is scraping on the rubber seal. Almost like a fingernails on blackboard sort of thing. Driving me mad !! Any thoughts on what it is? Windows are clean. Is it the heat expanding the rubber seal ? Doesnt sound mechanical. More like friction somewhere. Rubber need lubricating ? Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers

Welcome! It sounds like the window regulator might be on it's way out. When the cables start fraying they make a horrible noise. Try searching for +window +regulator on this forum and you'll get lots of hits.

Thanks for the Reply. I tried the " fix" listed on the FAQ section, and this morning it seems fine, so hopefully thats all it was. And maybe an expansion issue due to the heat over the weekend. Enjoy the sunshine cheers
