Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was lowering the roof when pulling into the drive and I heard some clunking. The roof did not shut so I opened it again and closed it and I heard some bits moving around - stopped the closure midway and found two plastic bits on O/S roof storage area. What the hell are these? Pics attached. BTW, roof works fine now but a little concerned about these things... Btw, the bigger bit has a part no stamped on it: 996.561.062.00 (I think it fits into the smaller bit and it seems parts of the plastic has gone soft and near enough snapped). Its from a 1999 C2 Cab.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I should add that I couldn't see the same part on the N/S - perhaps it was removed during previous ownership?

POST 3Original post

The PET calls it a "Flap" and there should be one on each side. Item 21. Can't tell you what it does, but the latest part number is 996.561.062.02 and they are £69.94 each, inc VAT. OUCH!!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

70 squids for these small plastic things - *****! What do they actually do? I'm guessing they cover the gap between the hood and car body (the metal lid bit)

POST 5Original post

There is a flap on each side that lifts at 90 degrees whilst the metail bit sits down into place and the last part of opening they fold back flush with the rear of the car. In reverse they are the first things to lift before the roof starts to lift. Can take photo of them on mine this evening if you need reference?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Would be great if you could post pics please. Thanks!

POST 7Original post

Two pictures attached. I think this is the piece in question. First one is in normal position. It's on a flip up hinge and is spring loaded. The second photo is me lifting it up to show it although the photo doesn't like my hand. Hope this helps.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks buddy - very kind of you. So when the roof is open and the cover down, do these plastic bits cover the bit between the canvas and metal cover?

POST 9Original post

Yes they look to be some sort of protection for the fabric from the metal cover as far as I can see.
