Anyone have any info on a good method to change the color of the airbag cover either by painting or dyeing? I have a 987.2 black airbag that I want to change to Sand Beige. Not sure if the cover is leather or vinyl but I'm guessing vinyl. Thanks

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ask at a shop selling automotive paints. Years ago they used to sell a paint for vinyl tops. I'd imagine it would work for this too. You'll need to decide whether it's leather or vinyl as I think different coatings are required. A body shop might be able to help also. Seem to recall hearing somewhere or other that you're not supposed to paint airbag covers. Paint store might know more.
I suspect that you will be on your own with this project, and would be surprised that any 'professional' would sign their name to the work due to liability. However if you decide to continue I would recommend an automotive upholstery shop, they would have the experience not only with dying automotive vinyl but also may know if dying the airbag cover will reduce it's effectiveness.
Sorry I couldn't pass this one up... but what ever you do don't ask this guy!
Hi, Not sure where you are in NJ but there is a guy in Delaware that could dye the cover with no problem. He dyed the interior of my 911 and it looks like new. http://www.thedyeguy.net/ Jon
